We usually stay at The El Convento hotel in old San Juan. It used to be a convent for nuns in the 17th century. It has been through a lot of remodeling, in fact it was once an area used to store the cities garbage trucks. Now it is a luxurious hotel that give you that “there are no electric keys for the room, and the elevators don’t work” feel-but you forget about all of that once you explore the hotel’s grounds. It also doesn’t hurt that there is complimentary wine and cheese happy hour on the terrace every evening!
